KREC Alumni Message Board

Eventhough first batch of engineering graduates came out of KREC in year 1965 activity of the alumni was not in organised way. Few alumni were organising the activities here and there but nothing much was done on a long lasting method or procedure. Chapters were organised in Bombay, Mangalore and Bangalore. Few enthusiastic alumni from these centres with support from alumni from other centres like Belgaum, Chennai, Hubli, etc., and management of the college organised a "Global Alumni Meet" on December 26-27,1998 in which nearly 500 alumni from all over India and a few from abroad participated actively and enthusiastically.

During the deliberations it was proposed to organise the activities of the alumni in a more professional way by having a CENTRAL GOVERNING COUNCIL at the CAMPUS which will be known as, KREC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION with chapters at various centres being affiliated to it. This parent body will have the representatives from other chapters and elected members to manage the affairs in due course. Further following activities were identified and resolutions were passed unanimousely to go ahead with the execution of proposals:

1. Organising alumni activities by forming CGC and chapters at different centres.
2. Development of an ALUMNI CENTRE at the CAMPUS for alumni activities for which land has been allotted by the management on the beach near the STEP building.
3. Promotion of STUDENT WELFARE FUND for providing loan scholarships to students who are meritorious but economically backward as the quantum of merit –cum-means scholarships given by the government at present in the college is roughly one-third of the fees payable whereas it was sufficient for meeting the expences of fees, hostel and the mess during sixties and seventies.

During convention large number of alumni offered to contribute to this fund upto Rs. ONE LAKH and many who were scholarship holders themselves during their student days proposed to contribute generousely to this fund. It is proposed to form a trust which will manage the fund once the collection starts. Only interest acrued at the end of the year will be utilised for disbursement.

As the follow-up measure representatives Mangalore, Bangalore and Bombay Chapters met and took necessary initial steps to bring in action above ideas, namely-

1. Opening of Bank Accounts with M/s State Bank of India, Srinivasnagar under following names:

1. KREC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION - for management of the parent body.
2. KREC ALUMNI ACTIVITY CENTRE - for development of ALUMNI CENTRE.
3. KREC ALUMNI STUDENT WELFARE FUND - for collection of fund for loan scholarship.

These accounts are operated by office bearers of Mangalore, Bangalore and Bombay Chapters.While the first account is for running the CGC next two accounts are only deposit accounts at this stage.

It is felt by majority of alumni and the Principal that priority to be given for promotion of scholarship fund. As on date these accounts have some balances transferred from the savings from Global Convention and contributions.

We sincerely appeal to the alumni to contribute generousely for this noble cause. Also we request the alumni to collect funds from other philonthropic persons, institutions and corporate bodies to mobilise considerable amount to fulfill the purpose of needy students at the campus.

Parallal action is being taken for registration of a TRUST to manage this fund and channellise the disbursement and recovery.

All contributions should be made by crossed cheque/ D.D. in favour of KREC ALUMNI STUDENT WELFARE FUND payable at State Bank Of India, Srinivasnagar branch and to be sent with the personal details of the donor to Dr.S.R. PHILAR / Dr GOPAL MUGERAYA at the campus.
